Bethlehem Steel soccer team will play Merchant A team, of Bristol, in a National League game at Bethlehem Steel Field on Saturday, January 11. This will be the second meeting of these teams, the first occasion being in the second round of the National Cup when Bethlehem eliminated the Shipbuilders after the most strenuous game seen at Bethlehem in a long time.
Butler and Campbell are doubtful starters for Saturday's game, so that some of the players in reserve will be given an opportunity to show their ability against the Shipbuilders.
The strength of Merchant A can be judged from the fact that they held a team from the pick of the Shipyard League to a score of two goals to one last Saturday at Philadelphia. They have two new players, McCabe and Maxwell of Buffalo.
Manager Head, of Merchant A team, claims that if Maxwell and McCabe had been in the line-up in the National Cup game here in November that Bethlehem would have been eliminated from the classic contest. Just what grounds he had for this statement will be settled on Saturday.
"Jimmy" Wilson, who played such a sterling game at St. Louis, will probably be seen in the Bethlehem line-up on Saturday.
