Cleared of ice and fanned by a cold stiff breeze to be thoroughly dried out, the soccer pitch on Lehigh Field, the home grounds of the Bethlehem soccer team, should be fast and in good condition for the meeting of the league leaders against J & P Coats on Saturday afternoon at 2:30.
With a fast field soccer patrons are certain to see a good and hard played game. Coats comes to Bethlehem for the first game of the weekend double header as the league leaders will meet Brooklyn on the latters grounds on Sunday afternoon. On that day, Coats will entertain Indiana.
That the game in Bethlehem is considered most important by both teams is evident by the tentative lineups submitted for the tilt. Bethlehem is taking Coats very seriously, for in spite of the so-called advantage of playing on the home field and before a crowd of home town cohorts, the management is fielding the strongest club. Bethlehem wants the two points and percentage increase possible by victory in this game, and so does Coats. Both realize that much energy will be spent in the game and in spending it both teams want to profit to the utmost.
The weeks respite by the postponement of the New Bedford game here last Saturday did wonders for the Bethlehem team. The payers who were nursing bruises are again fit and the squad is near being normal physically than it has been for a good many weeks.
Coats celebrated speedy right wing Harvey and Curtis will pit its prowess against the best right wing Bethlehem can muster. This is apparent with the announcement that Stark will be inside to Jaap, the latter outside wing, and that Gillespie will be doing duty of center forward. Forrest and Goldie are the tentative choices for the left wing. As a matter of comparison the definitive work of both teams will be interesting for both stand high in the matter of goals scored against them. In this respect, Bethlehem is topping Boston and Coats is following in third place with 41 against to 22 against Bethlehem.
With the exception of the backs and goalie, the league leaders will have a combination of veterans to pit against the visitors. Barrie and Eadie have been given the choice for the back position in the home game with Billy Allen laid up for the Sunday tilt at Brooklyn. Edwards, this years acquisition at goalie and one of the most sensational in the league will be between the uprights. Following is the probable lineup:
