The chances of the Bethlehem Steel soccer team again deadlocking with Fall River for the league lead in the American League race depends entirely on what Fall River does in its game scheduled with Pawtucket on Sunday afternoon.
The New England rivals of the Bethlehem Steel clan are leading the league by virtue of having played one more game than Bethlehem. Tomorrow afternoon the Steel Workers go to the post on the Steel Field against the National Giants of New York, and if successful in this game will tie with Fall River for over night at least. However, on Sunday, when the Steel Workers are idle Fall River if successful in defeating Coats will again take the lead by a two point margin.
Hoping that the Pawtucket aggregation may surprise Fall River, the Steel Workers are determined to win from the National Giants and will start against the New York Polo Grounds team with the strongest lineup possible. Long sessions of practice this week have primed the Bethlehems for the game for in addition to pointing to this contest, the Bethlehems are also working for the game tomorrow a week when the Newark F. C. will be the opponent in the semi-final of the National Cup competition which will be staged in Philadelphia.
Whitey Fleming, the Coats speedy wingman, is still leading for the honors of individual scoring. Alec Jackson, the younger member of the Jackson duo on the Bethlehem team, is crowding close to Flaming and the total number of goals scored today show that the Coats star is leading Jackson by but one with a total of 11.
