UPSET IN SOCCER LEAGUE
Pennant Aspirations of Two Clubs Are Given a Severe Jolt Over Weekend
STEEL SECURE IN SECOND

Saturday Scores
Bethlehem Steel 8; Fleisher Yarn 1
New Bedford 3; J & P Coats 1
Sunday Scores
Brooklyn 2; Newark 0
Providence 5; Boston 1
Fall River 1; New York Giants 0

Although but five games were played in the American Soccer League race over the weekend, no less than three were dramatic upsets in which the dangerous attitude of the second division clubs was most pronounced.

While New Bedford, Providence and Brooklyn are not listed with the contenders for the league honors, nevertheless, these three teams put in the works against topnotchers in the games played over the weekend and as a result the pennant aspirations of J & P Coats and Boston F. C. were given a serious blast, leaving Bethlehem practically alone to overcome the wildly galloping Fall River team.

The Steel Workers are now five points ahead of Boston and Coats, the nearest competitors and continuing to trail only three points behind the National champions. Fall River had a close battle with the Giants, barely winning out on the home grounds, by the score of 1 to 0.

Providence showed great strength in defeating the Hubmen by the score of 5 to 1 while New Bedford's 3 to 1 victory over Coats was another outstanding feature. By defeating Newark, Brooklyn won its third consecutive game by shutting out its opponents and increasing the list of [ . . ] defeats to an even dozen. League activities will be partly suspended over the coming weekend to make room for the first round of the American League Cup competition. In the latter local fans will be given an opportunity of seeing a first round cup tie game for the Steel Workers were fortunate in drawing the home grounds for a meeting against Indiana Flooring. The standings of the league with the games played to date is as follows:
