NEWARK SOCCER TEAM STEELMEN'S NEMESIS
Jersey Team Played the Role of Gadfly on Bethlehem Pitch This Season
SCORES OF FIRST HALF

The record of the campaigning of the first half of the American Soccer League schedule discloses that Newark, the humblest of the loop clubs, inflicted more damage to the championship aspirations of the Steelmen, league champions, than any other team in the circuit.

Newark, boasting no championship aggregation and at the tail end of the league standing, recognized as one of the weakest clubs in the league, experienced a better record in the home pitch of the Steelmen than any other team in the circuit. Furthermore, the three points lost by Bethlehem in the first half championship glide were of paramount value.

On one occasion Newark came to Bethlehem and held the Steelmen to a one goal draw. On another occasion the Jerseymen came here and shocked the soccer world with a 3 to 2 victory over the Steelmen. By a strange coincidence the New York Nationals, another club occupying a cellar position, was the only other team to defeat Bethlehem on the home grounds during the first half, winning by the score of 3 to 2. Had Bethlehem garnered the lost in each of these defeats together with taking the full quota of points instead of sharing with Newark, the first half would have found Bethlehem high and dry on top of the league table instead of being involved in a deadlock for second place which is shortly to be decided with a playoff on neutral grounds.

All told Bethlehem lost seven points on the home grounds. Four by virtue of defeats and three by virtue of the games. The draw contests were against Newark, Boston, and Brooklyn. Following is the complete record of the team for the first half schedule:
