While all the other teams in the American Soccer League will be engage in league affairs over the weekend, the Bethlehem Steel F. C. will be the only member of the circuit to compete in a cup contest. The latter is the semi-final round of the National Cup competition, the most important soccer classic in the country.
Fall River faces possibly the most severe test in the league tilts for on Sunday the league leaders come down from their lair in the New England states and battle the strong New York F. C. in the latter's oval. The outcome of this game is likely to advance the Steel Workers to an even standing with the league leaders.
League statistics show that Whitey Fleming, the former Bethlehem Steel outside left, now playing with J & P Coats, of Pawtucket, R. I., is still leading the league in the number of goals scored with a total of twelve. However, Alec Jackson, Bethlehem's youngster, is pressing him hard for the honors as runner up with a total of eleven goals. The schedule for the weekend follows:
Bethlehem Steel vs. Newark F. C. at Philadelphia (semi-final National Cup).
Fall River at New York F. C., E. McCabe, referee.
J & P Coats at Brooklyn, A. Laurie, referee.
