Nearer the Goal
When Bethlehem Steel F. C. took the New York Giants over for a decisive win in an American Soccer League game on the home field yesterday afternoon, the National champions came a notch nearer in clinching the American Soccer League championship. The Bethlehem's don't have many more games to win to make the title a certainty and once the issue is decided can concentrate exclusively on the National cup tie. While Bethlehem was defeating New York on the home field yesterday afternoon, Boston and Fall River had their quarrel in the Hub where the teams shared the points when the game ended in a one goal deadlock. That result boosted the Steel's percentage. When the cup tie and league games are completed it looks as though the Bethlehem team will be kept intact for a good long while afterwards. The visit of the Hakoahs which is sponsored by the Bethlehem and New York management, will be partly responsible for extending the season. In addition there is some talk of a possible tour to the Pacific Coast. On the visit of the Hakoahs Bethlehem, not included on the schedule of the touring Jewish eleven last year, will probably get a double crack at the Vienna team. A mid-week game will more than likely be played in Bethlehem. It is also practically a certainly that Bethlehem, a popular favorite in the New York district, will meet the Hakoahs in one of the three games scheduled for that city.
