The Cup Game
Philadelphians are making much ado over the semi-final round Lewis trophy cup games, one of which will be played in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon with Bethlehem Steel and Newark the foemen. It will be the first big professional game since early in the season when the Philllies after a valiant struggle were finally forced to disband and sacrifice the American Soccer League franchise. There may be more involved in this game than the mere result, but rumor is quite persistent that the future of big league soccer in Philadelphia hinges on the encouragement received at this game. League executives are confident that soccer can be put across in Philadelphia on a paying basis if properly managed. The Bethlehem-Newark game is regarded more or less of an experiment to test sentiment of Philly dribbling fans. Bethlehem was chosen as the team to make the experiment because the Steelmen are probably the most popular club playing away from home. It is also hinted that Bethlehem might be the club to shift to Philadelphia.
