The Penalty Kick
Bethlehem Steel's victory over the New York Giants by a penalty kick was well merited in spite of the opinion voiced by Gotham fans. Whether intentionally or not, Moorehouse, the Giants' left fullback, fouled Archie Stark within the eighteen yard range and there was nothing else for Referee Lambie to do but call the foul. Moorehouse's intent, we do not believe, was deliberate, but was just one of those slips to impede the progress of the Bethlehem center forward when the later was going through, with no one to beat but the goalie. While the penalty favored Bethlehem in counting the winning goal, for, in our opinion, Bethlehem certainly did not get the better of the violations that followed. While the Giants were deprived of penalties, they had plenty of free kicks at goal just outside the penalty area.
