Although Fall River profited materially in the matter of points in the American Soccer League standing over the weekend, the Bethlehem Steel F. C. is still in the race. Fall River, by winning two games, increased the margin of lead from one point to four. Bethlehem, however, is two games in the arrears in the total number played and by winning both would deadlock with their New England rivals.
That the outcome of the league race will be pretty definitely established at the close of the next two weeks is practically assured for by then Bethlehem will possibly have caught up in the number of games played. Fall River, qualified contenders for the National final to be played in St. Louis, will be inactive in league campaigning over the period while Bethlehem, no doubt, will continue in league competition.
Whitey Fleming, the former Bethlehemite and now speedy wingman with J & P Coats had a narrow escape Saturday and Sunday in losing his hold as high individual scorer, an honor which he enjoyed since the start of the season. By scoring a goal in the game against the New York F. C., on Sunday afternoon the fair haired forward boosted his total number of goals to fourteen. Scoring was necessary for Archie Stark, of the New York clan, boosted his total of individual goals to the same number. Alec Jackson, Bethlehem, was tied with Fleming before the weekend game, but his failure to score dropped him to third place in the individual standing.
