STEEL GAINS IN SOCCER LEAGUE
Only Two Points Now Separate Locals From Fall River in Race
HOPES HAVE BEEN REVIVED

Saturday Games

Bethlehem Steel 4; Philadelphia 1.
New Bedford 2; Coats 1.
Fleisher Yarn 0; Boston 0.

Sunday Scores

Boston 3; Indiana Flooring 2.
Brooklyn 2; Giants 0.
Fleisher Yarn 4; Newark 2.
Providence 0; Fall River 0.

Bethlehem Steel climbed a point nearer to the American Soccer League pennant over the weekend when in defeating Philadelphia the Steel Workers annexed two points while Fall River drawing with Providence bettered their point scoring average by one. As a result the Steel Workers are now trailing the national champions and league leaders by a margin of two points and are again in the running for the title.

Both Bethlehem Steel and Fall River have eight more games to play and a defeat for either club would have a material bearing on the outcome of the league race. The Providence game not only jeopardized the champions' chances in the league race but more so in the final round of the cup competition to be played against Boston next Sunday. Several of the Fall River players were banished in the Providence contest and if the cup rules are strictly adhered to these men will be ineligible for the cup competition.

Leading Brooklyn, the nearest rival, by six points the Steel Workers are practically assured of second place but are not satisfied with that position and will plug away in hopes that the breaks of the remaining games involving Bethlehem and Fall River may erase the two point lead held by the champions. Of the eight games remaining to be played by Bethlehem, three will be on the home grounds with the first of these next Saturday when J & P Coats journey from their haunts in Pawtucket, R. I., for a visit to Bethlehem. The standing of the clubs, including the games played over the weekend is as follows:
