MAY HAVE CHANCE TO SEE ST. LOUIS SOCCERITES HERE
Negotiations Under Way for Game Here on Saturday Before Easter -- Next Game On Local Grounds With University of Pennsylvania
H. W. Trend, manager of athletics, Bethlehem Steel Company announced this morning that negotiations were under way to bring the champion professional soccer team of St. Louis, Mo., to Bethlehem around the Easter holidays. It is expected that if the Bethlehem terms are accepted the Westerners will play the Steelworkers at Bethlehem on Saturday, April 7th and after meeting Bethlehem the St. Louis stars may play the Scottish-Americans at Newark on Sunday and Disston, at Philadelphia, on Easter Monday. However, the real test will be the first game at Bethlehem when the cream of St. Louis footballers will clash with the National Champions on their own lot and local fans will get a glimpse of how soccer football is played in the West.
The local management has been after the St. Louis Soccer league for quite a while and it will be interesting to see how the Western Champions will size up when playing under the rules of the United States Football Association with neutral referee and linesmen.
Another interesting feature of the contest will be that it is a real test for the St. Louis boys who have been picked to play a series of games in Sweden and Norway this summer similar to that undertaken by the All-American team last year.
Next Saturday the Bethlehem Steel team will play the University of Pennsylvania Soccer team intercollegiate champions, on the Steel Company's New Athletic Field. T his game will be worth going to see as the Red and Blue boys are confident they can more than hold their own with the National champions.
