STEEL SCORES EASY VICTORY
In American League Soccer Contest Philadelphia F. C. Vanquished 4 to 0
LOCALS SCORE EACH HALF

by Lucien Esty
Fresh from its victorious trip to St. Louis the Bethlehem F. C. romped away to an easy win over the Philadelphia F. C. in an American Soccer League contest played Saturday afternoon on the Steel Field here. The final count was four goals to none. Bethlehem tallied twice in each half and could easily have run up a higher score had it been deemed necessary. For about fifteen minutes after the game got under way, neither team had the advantage, but thereafter Bethlehem opened an attack that enabled Goldie to score from a difficult angle 25 minutes after the hostilities began. Indeed, the shot was so angled that Chapman, the Phillies' goal tender was caught off his guard as he assumed there was no chance of a score on the play.

Five minutes before the first half closed Maxwell surprised Chapman, himself, and the crowd of spectators when he lifted a rather high and not particularly fast drive straight into the Philadelphia goal.

Both tallies registered in the second half were made by Walter Jackson on passes from Goldie. The first came five minutes after the restart and the second ten minutes later. The Bethlehem eleven contended itself with loafing along during the last 30 minutes of the game, exerting itself only at such times as the visitors threatened to become dangerous.

Only a short time after the game got under way, Chapman turned his ankle and hobbled around the mouth of the citadel in a crippled condition for the remainder of the contest, interfering noticeably with his ability to defend the goal. Granger, of Bethlehem, was laid up for fifteen minutes in the first half with an injured leg. He returned to the lineup later but halfway through the second session was again forced to retire for the rest of the game. The game was not especially rough and neither Chapman's injury nor that of Granger were the result of personal contact with other players. About 300 spectators saw the game. The lineup:
