A Swing Along Athletic Row

Providence and the Giants
Looking back over the season's record of the Bethlehem Steel soccer team it is revealed that Providence and the New York Giants have played probably the most important part in curbing the championship aspirations of the local lot. And neither Providence or the Giants are up among the top notch clubs which were in the running for the pennant honors. For some reason or other these two clubs were able to take the measure of the Bethlehem clan while some of the recognized stronger clubs went down to defeat. Providence decided the issue in the American Soccer League race yesterday afternoon by defeating the Bethlehem team, one goal to nothing. Fall River was winning while Bethlehem lost and regardless of the outcome of the one remaining game to be played by each team, Fall River is secure in the top position. It was just such unexpected result that has been a boon to the growing interest in soccer and especially manifest in the American Soccer League which is just about ready to close shop for the present season.
