The Bethlehem Steel Works soccer eleven successfully defended its right to the American cup at Newark, N. J., yesterday in the final game played at Weidenmayer's Park by the overwhelming score of 7 goals to 0. A crowd of 5000 soccer fans saw the game, which was featured by the brilliant team work of the winners, who completely outclassed the Jerseymen. Only occasionally did the Hudsons reach the Bethlehem goal, and were easily forced back by the powerful defense of the steel workers.
It took Bethlehem 17 minutes to score its first goal, by McKelvey, but after that it was a procession. Easton got the second goal with a fine shot a few minutes later, which was followed by another point made by Fred. Pepper. At half-time Bethlehem led by 3 goals to 0.
Following the kick off in the second period, Pepper on a pass from McKelvey, shot the fourth goal, and after a beautiful combination run by the visitors, Forward Easton made the score 5 goals. Then came the best goal of the game, by "Pady" Butler, who dribbled around three West Hudson players and shot straight into the Hudson net.
Tommy Fleming scored the seventh and last goal after a dribble half the length of the field. The Hudsons put up a feeble resistance throughout and never had a chance.
