With a banquet to follow at which the players will be feasted in recognition of their victory in the National Cup competition, the curtain on soccer will be dropped in Bethlehem on Saturday afternoon at 3.
The champions go to bat against J & P Coats, of Pawtucket, R. I., in a league game. It will be the last home showing of the Steel Workers for the season 1925-26 with the final game to be played in New York on Memorial Day.
Incidentally, the game is one, if not the only, major attraction for Bethlehem on Saturday and an excellent card for local sports followers. Although the league honors have been decided with Fall River on the top, the clubs have not in the least relented in their determination to make an impressive showing and with this in mind, a torrid battle can be looked forward to.
The New Englanders come to Bethlehem with a score to settle for it was the Steel Workers which deprived the thread makers of the opportunity of meeting the Ben Millers, of St. Louis, in the National Cup final.
For the final showing of the season, the local management will field its strongest club. This means that the lineup will be practically the same which met and lost to Fall River in a weirdly refereed game last Saturday. Rumors that several new players would make their debut for a trial were denied by the management. "We will close the season with the regulars. There are no players on hand for a trial and furthermore, we want to make an impressive showing with the home supporters in the last home game of the season," was a statement from the management.
After the league schedule is completed with the Memorial Day game in New York, the players will break training for the summer. However, activities will be started late in the summer for an early opening next fall.
