STARK MAY LOSE SCORING LAURELS
Stevens, New Bedford Ace, Still Top Point Maker in Soccer League.
COATS HERE ON SATURDAY

Two games to overcome a three goal lead is the obstacle confronting Archie Stark, Bethlehem Steel center forward, to retain his honor as premier scorer in the American Soccer League.

One of these two games before the season ends will be played in Bethlehem, the nightcap on the Steel Field for the year, on Saturday afternoon, when the Steelmen oppose J & P Coats of Pawtucket, R. I. Stark is ambitious to retain the laurels he held for two successive seasons and can be expected to travel at full tilt in spite of the powerful opposition the Steelmen will face in the New England rivals.

While Stark is an outstanding center forward in the league Coats boasts of a player whose scoring ability is one of his main assets. He is Adams, the pivot man of the Thread Workers. Adams is a forward who cannot be allowed any leeway for if he eludes the defense he is extremely dangerous with his shots.

In the final of the Eastern Division of the National Cup competition Capt. Carnihan, of the Bethlehems, was well able to cope with the Pawtucket center forward. However, it was the brilliant playing of Adams, who by scoring four goals almost single-handed eliminated Boston in the cup competition.

In the matter of scoring Stark is trailing in second place with A. Stevens, of New Bedford, topping the list. The latter has rolled up the total of 42 points in forty-three games. Stark's total is 39 goals in 39 games. The latter has averaged a goal a game which on a percentage basis is slightly better than the record of Stevens.

Other high scorers in the league are: R. M. Blair, Boston, 36; J. Nelson, Brooklyn, 32; J. White, Fall River, 32; D. E. Brown, New York Giants, 23; B. McGhee, Indiana Flooring, 23; T. Florie, Providence, 21; J. Purvis, Bethlehem, 21; H. P. Brittan, Fall River, 21.

Mose Bloom will handle the game in which the probable lineup of the teams will be as follows:

Carson – G – Parks
Berryman – RFB – Stevenson
Allan – LFB – Allan
McDonald – RHB – Drummond
Carnihan – CHB – Perry
MacGregor – LHB – McAvoy
