STEEL BOOTERS AND BROOKLYN IN TIE
New York Team, with Hakoah Players, and Revamped Local Club Fight Hard
CONTEST CLOSES AT 3-ALL

Tackling a team already well trained by the many pre-season exhibition games played, the Bethlehem Steel F. C. in its initial start of the year gave great promise in battling the Brooklyn Wanderers to a 3 goal draw before six thousand fans on Ebbetts Field, Brooklyn, on Saturday afternoon.

The Wanderers, strengthened by the acquisition of several of the Hakoah stars, together with other new talent, were leading 3 to 2 at half time, but by this time the clever Bethlehem machine had found itself and from then on did most of the forcing and only for the sensational work of Smith in goal for the Wanderers, were they deprived of a victory in the first start.

New Local Players

Included in the Bethlehem lineup were quite a few new players who will sport t he colors of the local club this season. Although their first game and lacking familiarity of the Bethlehem style of play they acquitted themselves admirably.

Outstanding in the game was the brilliant defensive work of Jock Ferguson, veteran back. Although he has been trying to retire from active service for several seasons, his services were needed, and he came through the entire game with a brilliant display. His excellent judgment and accurate kicking checked more than one attack on the Bethlehem goal.

The Wanderers led at half time by 3 to 2, and held their advantage until 10 minutes from time, when Purvis, who subbed for Smith, converted a well-placed corner kick by Jaap and evened up the score. The Wanderers were well served in goal by Smith who made his first appearance this season. The steelworkers played a great game with their clever team and came from behind twice to equalize. Lineup:
