Enter the Soccer Season
With nine Grade A matches carded for as many pitches in New England, Pennsylvania, New York and New Jersey for this weekend, the fifth pennant campaign of the American Soccer League, premier organization of the kicking sport in this country, will be ushered in tomorrow and Sunday in imposing fashion. The stage is all set for the inaugural and every club listed for the initial start will be on their toes to grab the bacon in the opening contest. Bethlehem is included among the cities where the fans will be treated to the inaugural. It will be Indiana Flooring of New York City to appear here in the curtain raising event.
The Shawsheen Club
One new club and another dropped is the change in the American Soccer League for this season. Shawsheen is the one new club in the major league of the booting game, having acquired the franchise made available by the merger of last year's Fleisher Yarn and Philadelphia F. C. The latter club passes into the discard which should make soccer a more successful venture in Philadelphia. Shawsheen won the U. S. F. A. national challenge cup series last year in which not any of the twelve big professional clubs were entered. With last season's second division clubs vastly strengthened, a remarkably fast and well balanced 44 game league competition is the prospect. The season will carry through until May.
