Fischer or Fabian, a pair of goalies reputed the equal of the best in the country, will be assigned to the uprights for the visitors. Another sterling pair on the defense are Grosz and Sternberg with that celebrated aggressive trio of Drucker, Guttman and Mahrer the halfbacks.
In spite of this great defensive combination Bethlehem had one forward in the previous meeting to whom this bevy of stars proved no terror. It was Archie Stark who broke through on four different occasions to penetrate the net and the same Stark will be the pivot position for the locals when they lineup in battle formation on Saturday afternoon.
The Jewish aggregation boasts of an evenly balanced team but perhaps most of the strength is possessed in the forwards. Schwarz and Haeusler make up a right wing that is a continuous threat, both fast and aggressive and each skilled in ball manipulation and shooting. Gruenwald, in center with Wortman and Grenfeld on the left wing, complete this combination.
Bethlehem's forward line which as yet is problematic will vie for honors against this speedy invading outfit. That Tommy Gillespie and Johnny Jaap will comprise the right wing there is no doubt and neither is there any doubt relative to Stark who will be in the pivot position. In this arrangements Jaap, who during the absence of several of the regulars was playing left inside goes back to the berth in which he is more familiar and no doubt most effective. At present it looks as though Johnny Rollo, who had been doing halfback duty will be at inside left with either Alec Dick, the newcomer, or Purgavie at wing forward.
Hakoah may rave and boast over the halfback line but Bethlehem will have a trio that is equally as good if not slightly better. "Bill" Finlayson, former Providence player, who did a capable job at right back during an emergency, will be more at home at right halfback. Bill Carnihan, in center and Bob McGregor, left half, will present the biggest and possibly heaviest halfback line doing business in the country. Beveridge in goal with Allan and MacDonald, the latter also a new acquisition, at backs, will round out the defensive forces.
As is the custom in the important and big games the Eastern League is assigning a New York referee to handle the job. He is DeGroof, who comes to Bethlehem for the first time. His assistants on the line will be Horace Williams and Harry J. Carpenter, both of this city.
Teddie Glover, the Giants' diminutive but brilliant defensive star already has four goals to his credit. In four games he has been called upon to negotiate a like number of penalty kicks and has been successful on each occasion. Glover, for a small chap, has terrific drive and power and opposing custodians have small chance of averting a score when he is called upon to face this powerful kicker.
Leslie Lyell, former Brooklyn Wanderer star, was just the type of player needed to round out the Giants' attack. This player has acquitted himself well in the three games in which he has engaged for the Giants and has proved himself to be a real goal getter.
