The Merchant Ship and Bethlehem F. C. game, scheduled for here on Saturday has been called off as well as having the game transferred to Bristol. The officials of both clubs decided that in keeping with the state-wide quarantine against the spread of influenza it was best to cancel the contest. Efforts are now being made to play a game with some New York club and a game played on Sunday away from home.
The next game scheduled for Bethlehem is in the National Cup on Saturday, October 19th, with New York Shipbuilding F. C. of Camden, N. J., and if the quarantine is lifted in time to allow the game, a big crow2d should turn out to witness it.
A number of soccer players of note are to be found in the Shipbuilders lineup, the most prominent of whom is Tommy Swords, captain of the American team that tour Sweden, and formerly captain of the Fall River Rovers. Swords is regarded as one of the greatest opportunists in the game.
Other stars in the New York Shipbuilding team are Ness in goal, McLaughlin, right half back, and Fisher, half back three former members of the Disston F. C. of Philadelphia.
The standing of the clubs in the National League is as follows:
