BETHLEHEM WINS FIRST ROUND
Reorganized Team Gets Under Way in Fine Shape and Eliminates Kaywood
SCORE WAS 4 GOALS TO 0

The Bethlehem F. C. got safely by the first round of the play for the National Cup on Saturday on Steel Field when it easily shut out the Kaywood F. C. by the score of 4 to 0 in the opening home game of the current soccer season. Bethlehem’s superiority was clearly shown throughout. The ball was constantly in the visitor’s territory and the latter played a defensive game from start to finish.

The first score came about fifteen minutes after the start. Fall, the Bethlehem inside left, took a pass from the right wing and through a lack team work on the part of the Kaywood fullbacks, booted the ball through the defense. Five minutes later Dan McNiven scored on a pass from Rattray. The score was 2 to 0 at half time.

McNiven, a newcomer to the Bethlehem team made a bid for popular favor when both scores in the second period were made by him. The first was a header on a pass from Goldie. The second was the result of purely individual effort.

The defense of the Bethlehem team was so tight that only twice was Highfield, the goalie, forced to make saves. The Kaywood goal put up a good game, stopping many chances and only letting the impossible ones get away. Terris, a Bethlehem halfback, came within an ace of scoring when a speedy kick bounded back when it struck the uprights of the goal. McNiven also narrowly missed a chance on a free kick after a penalty.

The Bethlehem team showed itself to be far superior than it was last week at Philadelphia. This was in spite of the fact that Kerr, regularly a goal tender, was playing out of position at outside right in order to fill the place of a man who failed to register in time to be eligible for the game today. Kerry played a strong game nevertheless. Others who featured for the local eleven were Rattray, McNiven and Young. Forrest and Goldie, of Bethlehem, also showed up well. The outstanding stars of the Kaywood team were Olyc and Colman.
