Soccer Race Tightening Up
A general shakeup in the standing of the foremost clubs in the American League soccer race was witnessed over the last weekend with Fall River by its victory over Indiana Flooring going into first place and Bethlehem hopping from fourth place deadlocked with Boston and Indiana for second place. Scarcely more than 3 points separate the 4 league leading clubs. Next week's games and results threaten even a greater variance in the league standing for the three of the four leading teams engage each other in battle. Bethlehem Steel, by its recent success annexed enough points to climb to the top of the ladder but are called upon for a crucial series over the coming Saturday and Sunday, the result of which will have a material bearing in the standing of the teams. On Saturday Bethlehem meets J & P Coats at Pawtucket and on Sunday engage with Fall River on the latter's field. Fall River, too, have hard games over the weekend, meeting Boston on Saturday and then colliding with Bethlehem the following day. Probably the greatest upset in soccer circles this season occurred at New Bedford on Saturday when the latter team defeated Boston 2 goals to none.
