A smoker to pep up interest for a soccer game will be something new to local fans. That is what the Bethlehem Soccer Boosters plan for Friday, November 26, when at the same time honor will be paid the Bethlehem players in recognition of their excellent stride to date in the American Soccer League race. On November 27 Bethlehem Steel clashes with the speedy Fall River club.
The boosters gathered last evening in the new headquarters of the Yo Eddie Club and spent several hours in arranging matters for the smoker and discussing other business. The plans are to secure the University Room at the Hotel Bethlehem for the smoker and to feature the occasion with a dinner and various other forms of entertainment.
The idea took and was given the unanimous approval by the attending boosters. Just how the tickets for the occasion will be disposed of is yet to be worked out, but as negotiations have been closed for the dinner.
Another matter disposed of and one that should swell the coffers of the soccer treasury has to do with the disposal of the Dodge sedan won by W. L. Lewis of the soccer management, in the recent Veterans of Foreign Wars drawing. The machine was given to the boosters to dispose of and it was decided that since the machine had been won by drawing, it would be wise to dispose of it in the same manner. Tickets will be printed immediately, with the drawing to be held in three or four weeks.
A more appropriate date than the eve of the Fall River game could not have been made for the smoker. Fall River and Bethlehem are heated rivals and with the Marksmen gradually sneaking up on the league leaders, the outcome of the tussle here will be important. Bethlehem has Providence here on Saturday afternoon and meets the clam diggers in not the very best shape. However, every effort will be made to round up the invalids into condition for the Fall River meeting.
