Soccer will come back into its own in Bethlehem, to occupy the center of the sports spotlight and provide the outdoor entertainment during the winter months on Saturday afternoon when the Bethlehem Steel dribblers take on Indiana Flooring in an American Soccer League game.
Bethlehem returns home today to prepare for this game after a disastrous invasion to the New England states where on Thanksgiving Day afternoon, the Steel Workers lost two more points in the league race to the rapidly traveling New Bedford Club.
Although defeated at New Bedford, the Steel men are not discouraged and have by no means given up hope of landing at the top of the American Soccer League ladder. To them the game is still young and with the long winter months to play, hope to get back into the running when they clash with the leading clubs.
Thus far this season, the Bethlehemites have been forced to meet the more formidable clubs in the league away from home. The success against the contenders has not been discouraging, although it is believed that their best chances prevail when they play on home loam.
Soon it will be the topnotchers in the league race who will have to visit Bethlehem and of the clubs that have played havoc with the league leaders to date Indiana Flooring comes here in the first one on Saturday afternoon.
For this game Bethlehem will more than likely field a club that will witness several changes in the lineup. Changes that are occasioned by the hard game experienced by the local team at New Bedford and which are possible with the list of capable reserves.
It is probable that home town fans will see Berryman, recently signed back in action on the defense. Allen and Dave Ferguson worked the New Bedford game and the choice for [...] will no doubt seen the veteran Jock Ferguson hustled into uniform to pair off with the newcomer. The game will be called promptly at 2:45 o'clock.
