BETHLEHEM STEEL DOWNS NEW YORK
Win Close Soccer Game Here Yesterday, 3 Goals to 2.
FLEMING'S PENALTIES

At Bethlehem Steel Athletic Field yesterday, Bethlehem Steel defeated New York F. C. in a National League game by the score of 3 goals to 2 in a spirited contest, the outstanding feature of which were the aggressiveness of the visiting forward line and the stubborn defense of Duncan, Fletcher and Ferguson for the Steel Workers.

Koelch opened the scoring with a beautiful drive that completely beat Duncan. Bethlehem played hard after this reverse but failed miserably when in a position to score and shortly before the interval New York scored their second goal after fine individual work on the part of O'Holloran who beat Morrison and Ferguson and crossed opportunely to Petrie, the latter finishing with a low shot that gave the goal keeper no chance. The half ended shortly after with the score New York 2, Bethlehem 0.

The second half found the Steel Workers determined to make up the leeway and after a sustained attack participated in by the entire forward line a penalty was awarded against Robertson for deliberately tripping McKelvey within the penalty area. Fleming gave the goaltender no chance with the shot.

This goal gave the Steel Workers the necessary confidence and for the first time in the game they displayed the combination they are capable of and although New York played desperately and were often dangerous there was no denying the steel Workers superiority and after a clever piece of combination, Murray registered the second goal for the Steel Workers, on a cross by Murphy. New York played desperately after this but the Steel Workers kept up their piece of combination Murray registered the second goal for the Steel attack and McKelvey looked like scoring when Robertson unceremoniously tripped him and in the resultant melee that followed Robertson, Casey and McKelvey were ordered from the field. The Steel Workers were now playing with nine men against ten but continued to have the upper hand and in a vigorous attack a New York player handled the ball within the penalty line and Fleming again made good. This goal seemed to take the heart out of New York and although Duncan was called upon twice to save his citadel the Steel Workers did most of the attacking and the game ended with the ball in New York territory, score: New York, 2; Bethlehem, 3.
