A Swing Along Athletic Row

Numbering Soccer Players
The J & P Coats team playing here against Bethlehem Steel on Saturday introduced an innovation in local soccer circles by appearing on the field with the players numbered. We believe that those advocating the numbering of the players will strike a popular chord with the spectators for in American football it is proved a blessing to the vast army of fans in more closely following the game and identifying the individuals. Coats players were numbered but one thing was overlooked so that the numbers were really of little avail to the spectators. That one thing overlooked was in omitting the number of the player in the program. After the American Soccer League executives get caught up in the vast amount of business pending disposition, it might not be amiss to suggest that specific action be taken making numbering of players compulsory and that the numbers be included in the programs.
