A Swing Along Athletic Row

Battle of Battles This Week
The long awaited visit of Fall River to Bethlehem to meet the Steel Workers in an American Soccer League game will be realized on Saturday afternoon when Harold Brittan's New Englanders invade this city for the last trip to Bethlehem. The game will mark the third of the four scheduled games and in the night cap Bethlehem will have to journey to the grounds of the New England dribblers. Suffice it to say that Fall River will be the guests of the Bethlehem contingent to inspire interest in what promises to be the season's home soccer classic. Episodes that have occurred in the two previous meetings of these clubs, such as the injury of Malcolm Goldie and the temporary suspension of "Sturdy" Maxwell involved in the "Jimmy" Fryer fistic display have had a tendency to stimulate a more heated rivalry against the visitors. Before taking on Fall River the Steel Workers will appear in an appetizer on New Year's Day against Indiana Flooring, the game to be played on the Steel Field.

Now in Second Place
By the dual victory of the Bethlehem Steel team over Newark the Steel Workers moved into second place, one point better than Boston and but three points behind Fall River. It is possible for the steel Workers to oust the National champions from first place after the game next Saturday. However, to do so, the New England contingent must drop both games scheduled for this weekend and Bethlehem win both. If both teams win their New Year Day game and Bethlehem then defeats Fall River the margin of point in favor of the National champion will dwindle to a single one. The Saturday game will without doubt have a material bearing on the league result for as yet Bethlehem has been the only club that seems to have the number of the Fall River crowd.

Goldie Available for Service
It will be good news to soccer fans to know that Malcolm Goldie, indisposed with injury since the last visit of the Steel Workers to Fall River, will be available for duty for the game next Saturday, Goldie is recovered sufficiently to resume work and with practice this week is expected to round into condition to take his place on the left wing. This means that Arthur Robertson will return to his halfback position where in addition to Carnihan and MacGregor the New England invaders will pit their merit against a seasoned and experienced halfback line. Goldie's absence was severely missed in spite of the fact that Robertson assumed the utility role with great credit and ability. However, it was experimenting on the forward line that didn't do the team any good.
