John W. Ferguson Sr., 86, one of the first four members of the Soccer Hall of Fame in Philadelphia and a former star player for the Bethlehem Steel soccer team, died yesterday at his home at 645 Spring St.
A soccer player in his native Scotland, he played with steel's team from 1912 to 1929, and was taken into the Hall of Fame Feb 18, 1950.
He was the husband of the late Mary Kay Ferguson.
Before retiring in 1957, he had been employed in the Bethlehem Steel Corp, printery.
Mr. Ferguson was the son of the late William and Helen Winter Ferguson.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the MORA club.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Margaret Ferguson at home, and Mrs. Samuel Kyle of Drexel Hill, Delaware County; a son John W. Jr. of Bethlehem and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Daniel B. Snyder Funeral Home, 527 Center St. with the Rev. Keith A. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
