The Lewis Trophy
Soccer interest over the weekend will be directed more exclusively to the cup tie semi-finals for the Lewis trophy in which Bethlehem Steel and Newark are the semi-finalists in the metropolitan bracket, while Boston, defending champion, collides with Fall River in the New England bracket. Peculiar as it may seem, each of these three clubs was eliminated in the National Challenge cup and incidentally the survivors of the latter were thrown for a loss in the Lewis trophy competition. All of which means that the soccer honors for this season will be quite liberally distributed and attests a more equally distributed relative merit in the makeup of the big professional clubs this season.
