STEEL TEAM IN 5TH PLACE
Even At That Only Two Points Separate Soccer Eleven From First Place
ANOTHER NEW PLAYER

A contender for first place before the games played last week, the Bethlehem Steel dropped to fifth in the club standing in the American Soccer League teams but will have an opportunity to make up some of the lost ground against the Providence team here on the Steel field on Saturday afternoon.

The matter of points separating Bethlehem from Boston, the latter club now topping the circuit, is but two and indicates the closeness in the race. Boston and Fall River are tied with 11 points each; Indiana Flooring and Brooklyn next with 10 points, and Bethlehem and J & P Coats next in order with 9 points.

In hopes of showing at their best intensive sessions of training were carried on this week and Bethlehem will field the strongest team possible. Providence, in a previous meeting stopped the Bethlehemites, and it is in hopes of avenging this defeat that the players have resorted to hard work this week.

At the club quarters it was learned last night that in addition to Whitey McDonald, a half back, and Forest, a forward, there will be another newcomer to be introduced to Bethlehem fans in Saturday's game. He is Johnny Rollo, a 24 year old youngster, who will most likely be seen at inside left in place of Sturdy Maxwell. Rollo joined the club several weeks ago and has played in several games. Last year he starred with the Glasgow Rangers, league champions of Scotland.

Since the previous meeting with Providence, the visiting clan managed by Sam Fletcher, the former Bethlehem Steel back, will find a quite different forward line and one that promises to be dangerous from end to end. Also a trio of newcomers, Forrest, McDonald and Rollo, who are youngsters injected into the lineup and with plenty of speed and stamina.

While some changes are possible before Saturday, the team to start against the visitors is most certain to be Carson, in goal; Davy Ferguson and Jock Young, fullbacks; McDonald and Robinson, halfbacks and MacGregor, center halfback.

Archie Stark, also an acquisition this year who made a favorable impression with the local fans in the game here against Philadelphia F. C. will be at center forward. Flanked on his right will be Grainger on the inside and Forrest on the wing. On the left will be Rollo at inside forward and the speed Goldie on the outside.

Bill Carnihan, Bethlehem's bulwark on the defense in the center halfback position is rapidly recovering from an illness. However, it will be several weeks before he is again seen in harness. The standing of the clubs and the games scheduled for this weekend follows:
