GIANT GOALIE NEW BETHLEHEM PLAYER
Here Trying to Convince Club That He is the Man Needed in Goal
STARK IS HIGH SCORER

American-born and a giant in stature, standing 6 feet 2 inches and tipping the team at 210 pounds, is a description of a new acquisition to the Bethlehem soccer team who this week is cavorting with the boys out on Lehigh field trying to convince the management that he is the right man for the job between the uprights.

His name is John Finneran, late of New York City, but with soccer experience abroad and a most promising prospect as successor to the regular job of goalie. With McClure on the shelf treating a fractured thumb Bethlehem is weak in goal and the need of a competent custodian is imperative. Last week Bethlehem used a youngster named Joselit, also of New York City, and while active between the uprights, his diminutive size is a disadvantage he will have to overcome.

It is big men that are sought for this job, players who can almost reach from one end of the net to the other as well as high enough to tip them over the cross bar and players who form a barrier with their bodies in the goal mouth. And of this type Mr. Finneran is ideal providing he can crash through with the other requisites.

Finneran is American born, but did most of his soccer playing abroad and in fairly fast company. He last played for Wimbledon in the Isthmian league. The Wimbledon club is one of the most prominent in amateur circles in England.

The windup of the first half of the soccer season finds Bethlehem not alone winning the team championship but enjoying individual distinction as well. Archie Stark, dashing goal getter, is leading the rank and file in the number of goals with a total of 27.

As a goal-scoring team, as well as a strong defensive aggregation, Bethlehem proved the dream of the league. With the 91 goals scored the local booters were the high club, trailed by the New York Giants who amassed a total of 87 goals. The defensive strength of the team is reflected in the 37 goals scored against it. The Giants with 47 against is next in order.
