AMERICAN SOCCER LEAGUE MAY BE SUSPENDED
United States Football Association, Parent Organization Issues Ultimatum Today.
DATE IS OCTOBER FIRST
William Cunningham, President of the American League Gets a Telegram

New York, Sept. 29 (AP) -- The United States Football Association today intervened in behalf of the Bethlehem Steel, New York Giants, and Newark soccer clubs which were suspended by the American Soccer League for having entered the National Challenge Cup competition conducted the U. S. F. A. after the American Soccer League had voted not to.

The following statement was received by Tom Cahill, secretary of the U. S. F. A. for its president, Armstrong Paterson, in Detroit.

"Decision arrived at by National Commission no league has a right to prevent a club entering or taking part in our national competition. Therefore, notify Cunningham that unless the fine and suspension is raised on these clubs by Monday, Oct. 1, the league will stand suspended from all privileges in this association."

Cahill said William Cunningham, president of the American Soccer League, was notified at once by telegram to Boston. The punishment indicated by Patterson's statement means disbarment from organized soccer competition as the U. S. F. A. is the parent governing body of the sport.
