The Brooklyn Wanderers, newest entry in the American Soccer League, will invade Bethlehem Saturday afternoon for a league game of considerable promise. Since its elimination from the National Cup contest, by reason of its defeat at New York last Sunday, Bethlehem Steel F. C. is bent on winning the American league crown, and is confident of gaining on the league leaders this weekend.
J.H. Carpenter is to referee the contest, scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. Several changes in the Steelmakers' lineup have been promised, but the Bethlehem soccer management will take no chances of an upset at the toes of the Brooklyn aggregation, recognized as a dangerous opponent at any stage of the proceedings.
Withal, the appreciable shake-up in the league point table is in prospect. Should Bethlehem lose to Brooklyn Saturday, it would find itself in second division in the league standings, no doubt, as Paterson is counted to win its Sunday game -- having struck a rapid stride of late, as evidenced in its recent 6-3 defeat of New York S. C.
Brittain and Reid, of Fall River, and McKenna, of Patterson, lead the league in individual goal scoring to date, each with seven goals, and Duggan, of Paterson, and A. Stark, New York, are tied for fourth place with six each. McNiven, Bethlehem, Brown, Harrison, and Andrews, Philadelphia, have 5 apiece.
